
The Generative Leadership Program™ (GLP) program is offered as a multi-year program, requiring acceptance for participation in each year. We also offer customized versions of GLP as in-house programs for selected clients. Assessment of each participant’s work in the program will not be based on academic performance with homework, but be based primarily on their producing effective action in their work and new value for their customers.
- In the first year participants are required to attend four three-day conferences held approximately every four months.
- Participants receive coaching from Enterprise Design coaches twice a month, reviewing their work and progress in their real-time management situations.
- Participants are expected to devote approximately 4-6 hours per week to their studies and practices on the job – the majority of study time will be engaging in on-the-job practices for managing your actual work.
- Learning assignments are provided approximately every month via e-mail.
- Assignments are focused on the introduction of distinctions and the development of pragmatic practices on the job. These studies, assignment work, and responses are geared to working with participants’ actual management situations and challenges.
- Participants work together in learning teams with conference calls twice a month. Additional company, team, or individual coaching is available to participants who wish more intense or accelerated development of their capabilities.
The GLP program is focused on the core competencies that executives and managers need to be able to lead teams in making and fulfilling commitments of value. Participants learn practices for individual and team management of commitments, customer satisfaction, and value.
The foundational skills of building teams, team leadership, coordination, navigation to customer value, and effective planning and projects will be built and incorporated into the everyday practices of your work. You will look to produce measurable improvements in the value of the promises that you and your organizations are producing. In addition, we focus on:
Becoming Aware of & Dealing With Blindness to Value and Waste
- Become aware of the phenomena of cultural and historical blindness – that people don’t know what they don’t know; they don’t see possibilities that are beyond their current ability to see.
- Learn to see the network of interconnections of a company, to see value and where it is missing, and to see waste in its many guises.
- Connect people’s work to the consequences for the business, and build a value and customer-satisfaction oriented culture.
- See how different discourses produce a different common sense, standards, and possibilities for action.

Producing Learning in Action
- Learn how to engage in learning so that it produces effective action.
- Develop the actions that produce a true learning organization.
- Move learning beyond understanding into embodied skills.
- Increase the value produced by your teams and organizations by putting learning into action.
Developing the Habits of a Leader
- Become an effective customer and leader of action instead of just a skilled performer.
- Learn to declare new possibilities, to design strategies and actions, and to fulfill them.
- Observe, refine, and invent the games of action of your organizations.
- Develop skills for innovation both personally and in your teams.
Navigation – Designing Effective Action
- Develop practices with your teams to lay out maps of future action, review them regularly, assess where you are, and take action to stay on course.
- Develop skills for making effective judgments.
- Insure that the planned actions remain connected to the value intended for the customer.

In this section of the program, we go beyond building teams that can fulfill promises of value to teams that can increase the value of their promises. In addition to continuing to strengthen the foundational competencies in management, we build on the skills developed in the first year and focus on:

- Develop innovation as a skill, rather than as a mysterious insight.
- Establish practices for innovation throughout your organization.
- Learn to listen for innovations and opportunities for innovations arising in the world.

- Understand what value really is.
- Open up new possibilities for the actions that generate value.
- Learn to build wealth and power – see where wealth and power come from, and how to orient yourself more potently to be a source for them.
